Melanie White was a potential birth mom for Addison when she was trying to adopt.

After Mildred Clemons approved Addison's application to adopt, Melanie chose to meet with her as a potential birth mom. She was a semester away from graduation and planning to go to law school afterward and she was pregnant. During their meeting, she asked Addison if Addison believed she was a bad person for giving up the baby when she had the means to support her. Addison shared with her the story of having an abortion after she became a doctor and assured Melanie she didn't think she was awful. Melanie said she was amazing for sharing her abortion story so candidly.
Melanie said that the other family she was considering was a couple from her church. They had a son already and they were nice, but a little boring.
Melanie later went into labor. Her mother was out of town and so she had them page Addison to be with her during the delivery. When the baby presented face up, the OB attempted to use vacuum assistance. When that failed, Addison stepped in an used rotational forceps to complete the delivery.
Addison came to visit Melanie after she gave birth. Melanie gave her the baby to hold, but then said that despite believing Addison was the perfect fit, she was choosing the couple from her church. Addison is amazing, but she has a busy life while the baby could just slide right into the family from her church without being an interruption.
